The North

Barren Fields

A frozen desert that goes on as far as the eye can see. The land is completely flat until it reaches the base of tall mountains to the west side, which are not climbable. The only vegetation that grows here are short grasses and a rare shrub. There is a single water source that flows through. It is mixed with ice throughout the year, but never frozen over. There is permafrost on the ground year-round and covered with snow except for in the summer. This is the most Northern part of Spiritus, and no one has yet to wander past it. The only thing North of here is the Arctic Ocean.

Arctic Realm

The Barren Fields extends down into the more southern part of the Tundra known as the Arctic Realm. Most of the time snow covers the ground. In spring, there are patches of snow, while in the summer the ground is completely devoid of it. There are various grass species and shrubs that grow here. The land is mostly flat with a few small rocky hills and slopes. There are a few dried up stream beds leaving behind sandy, rocky terrain. A few streams still exist and are always flowing. Permafrost exists here except in the summer. There is an abundance of arctic wildlife here such as arctic hares, caribou herds, and musk ox.

Frozen Lake

A large lake near near the bottom of the Kamaski mountains on the North side. It is almost always frozen over with ice thick enough so that even the largest of animals can safely walk on it. In the winter it is covered by snow, but just as slippery if stepped on. Be warned, in the spring the ice may be thin enough for larger predators to fall in. In the summer, it is mostly melted and a large source of water and aquatic life. On the edges of the lake are tall grasses, shrubs, and a few evergreen trees.

Kamaski Mountains

Towering mountains with high peaks always tipped with snow. The higher the altitude on its slopes the more stony the terrain, and the more scarce the vegetation. The lower altitudes are covered with dense forest, a mix of evergreen and deciduous tree species such as spruce, pines, tamarack, birch, and aspen. Water sources are plentiful for there are many small streams that flow from the melting snow and into the valley. There are a few mountain passes as well, but be warned of tumbling boulders. This place is known to be prime habitat for an array of species including lynx, bobcats, foxes, bears, rams, and mountain goats.

Alpine Meadow

The meadow rests in the Alpine region at the base of the Kamaski Mountains. It is a vast, open field with a few, short trees. It is comprised of mixed grasses tall and short, and filled with beautiful mountain lupine and purple fringe. In the winter, the bright colors of this place are absent, but the high grasses remain until they are covered with snow.

Restless River

A powerful river that runs from the mountains and through the forests. In some areas its currents are strong enough to sweep any animal away while in others it can be a easy flow. There are many large rocks in the river, so it is not advised to swim here. The river is surrounded by forest a few feet beyond its open, rocky river bend. It is a popular place to catch fish and other prey animals, especially rodents and mustillids. In the calmer areas river otters may even be spotted.

Evergreen Forest

The southern most part of the northern realm and teaming with an array of wildlife both prey and predator. This is a dense forest filled with evergreens compacted close together. A mix of primarily pine, spruce, hemlock, and cedar. Other smaller plants also grow in the under-story where there is more light. Little light shines through in some areas due to the thick canopy above. In the winter, this place is a winter wonderland covered with snow.
